Singing4God Ministries was started by Sonja Watkins. In 2007, the Lord began giving Sonja words and tunes to write songs. Though she wasn't really comfortable with this new task, she wrote them down, but didn't let anyone know about them. After the third song was written, she let her husband, Pastor Mike Watkins (First Southern Baptist Church of Safford, AZ) know about what she was doing. He was as surprised as she had been that this was the direction the Lord was leading her.
Sonja continued writing and began singing her songs for the congregation at FSBC Safford. Later, Shamen Starr joined FSBC Safford and told Sonja that she played bass guitar. Shamen had over 20 years as a professional musician, both singing and playing instruments. Soon, she and Sonja were playing for all congregational and special music at the church.
It wasn't long until Sonja and Shamen were asked to provide the music for an associational meeting in nearby Willcox, AZ. At the end of the program, a lady approached them and asked if they would be interested in providing music for an upcoming women's retreat. They did and had a blast!
After much prayer, Sonja talked to the church about endorsing their ministry, which was agreed upon unanimously, and the ministry was given the name "Singing4God Ministries."
Judy Snider has now joined the group. Judy has been playing piano and organ for many years. She began as pianist for FSBC Safford several years ago, and switched to the organ when another pianist joined the church. Later, the church purchased a Roland Keyboard, and Judy fell in love with it! She has been playing it ever since!
Along with a group of singers from various churches in the community, these ladies provide music at the local nursing home once a week. Sonja and Shamen also play once a month with a group of musicians, providing country music at that same nursing home.
Singing4God Ministries will provide music for Retreats, Revivals, Conferences, Festivals, etc.
